Exciting news for Merthyr Tydfil! 🎉 The town centre’s former bus station site is set for a major transformation. Plans are underway to create a fantastic new playground at the Glebeland site, with a whopping budget of £200,000. This comes as Cyfarthfa Park’s play area was found to be in top shape, so it’s staying as is for now.

Ever felt like the town centre needed more places for kids to have fun? You’re not alone. Over the years, community consultations have consistently highlighted the need for more play facilities. And finally, it’s happening!

The decision to prioritise the Glebeland site comes after detailed inspections and surveys, ensuring every penny is spent wisely. While this centrepiece playground is the headline act, it’s part of a broader programme that includes sites in Pentrebach, Blaendowlais, and Pant, each slated for a £100,000 investment.
Despite playgrounds being a ‘non-statutory’ service, the council is keen on the positive impact play has on children’s health and well-being. With a total of 51 play areas around the county borough, many are nearing the end of their life and need refurbishing. Thanks to a five-year plan launched in 2021, we’re seeing real progress, with 19 sites already spruced up by September 2025.
Stay tuned as more updates roll out! Merthyr is gearing up for some fantastic changes, and we can’t wait to see these plans come to life. 🌟
