Tragic news has struck as the community mourns the loss of 21-year-old Royal Marine, Joshua Houghton, following a fatal accident on the M48 in Wales. A bright light from Devon, Joshua was the heart of every room, known for his sense of adventure and uncanny ability to turn any moment into an exhilarating experience.
Joshua passed away in the early hours of November 11th after his vehicle collided on the motorway near Chepstow. Despite the swift response from Gwent Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service, and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Joshua was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The incident kept the motorway closed for a thorough investigation.
His family, now surrounded by support, fondly remember Joshua as a beloved son, brother, and friend. His life was a testament to the Naval motto—courage, determination, cheerfulness, and unselfishness—leaving a remarkable impact on everyone he met. After conquering the gruelling recruit tests, Joshua fulfilled his dream when he became a Royal Marine Commando in July, stationed at 42 Commando.
Friends remember him as an inspiration, a man with an infectious smile who was always quick with a joke or a random fact. Fearless and always ready to lend a hand, Joshua’s legacy is one of warmth, compassion, and an unyielding zest for life. His funeral will be held at St Albans Church in Lympstone, the cherished home of the Royal Marines.
Though Joshua’s physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit and the love he sowed leave a lasting imprint on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
