🍬 Are you eating too much sugar? Dr Megan Rossi, the “Gut Health Doctor,” shares her top tips for keeping your sugar intake in check, and they’re easier than you might think!

Dr Rossi advises you start by asking yourself these three key questions:

1. Are your sugar cravings intense and frequent?
2. Do you find you’re adding more and more sugar to your tea or coffee?

3. Are sugary snacks often replacing your main meals?
If you’re nodding along, it might be time to reassess where your sugar’s coming from. Dr Rossi sheds light on the difference between added sugars, usually hidden in processed foods and sweet treats, and naturally occurring sugars found in wholesome fruits, veggies, and dairy.
While cutting all sugar might sound tempting, it’s really not the answer! Ditching all sugar can starve your gut of essential nutrients found in natural sources. So instead of going sugar-free, aim to switch up your sugar sources.
🍏 Stick with whole fruits and vegetables
🥛 Enjoy those fermented dairy delights
🍯 Be mindful of foods with added sugars like ‘natural’ sweeteners
The NHS warns that too much sugar not only affects your waistline but poses risks like heart disease, some cancers, and diabetes. It’s important to aim for less than 25 grams of added sugar a day (that’s around 6 teaspoons) and keep sugary drinks to a minimum.
And remember, added sugars in excess can lead to significant health concerns over time. Recent studies have shown high sugar diets are linked with increased risks for heart disease and certain cancers.
So, when your sweet tooth comes calling, make it a call to action for a healthier you! Swap that sugary snack with something naturally sweet and keep those health concerns at bay! 🍎
