ππ§οΈ A Royal Birthday Splash in Wales! π§οΈπ

Despite the stormy skies, Wales was abuzz with excitement as King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived on a memorable visit celebrating the King’s 77th birthday. Their day kicked off at the historic Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr, where the couple were greeted by a crowd of enthusiastic onlookers, umbrellas in hand. The King cut a special birthday cake shaped like the castle itself – how fitting! ππ°

The royal itinerary was packed! While Queen Camilla charmed youngsters at Cyfarthfa Primary School, joining in on a guided reading session and a school assembly, King Charles was off to Taff’s Well for a special engagement. There, he officially opened the gleaming new Β£100m Transport for Wales depot, despite the gusty winds! ππ

The King, ever sporting, even took the controls of a shiny new tram-train, delighting pupils who waved both Union Jacks and Welsh flags. The tram showcased a warm birthday message across its boards, making it a truly royal ride. ππ
Smiling through the rain, the King also met with apprentices and long-serving TfW staff, sharing a moment with all involved in Wales’ rail revolution. The tram he drove was named ‘Myddfai’, a nod to his former Welsh retreat nestled in the Brecon Beacons. ππ
