📚 Student’s Housing Nightmare: Cardiff Uni staffer rents out property she didn’t own! 🏠

A Cardiff University student almost had to ditch his final year after a university staff member pulled a fast one with a rental! Imagine paying £800 upfront for a place, only to be turned away on the day you’re moving in. 🤯

🚗 Our Bath-based student set off for a 150-mile journey, thinking all was sorted, but halfway there, he received a text from the staffer claiming a burst pipe made the place uninhabitable. She offered a hotel stay but it turns out, someone else owned the house! It was sold months ago, yet she didn’t spill the beans until it was too late. 📅
This mix-up meant months without a refund. He couldn’t afford his usual living costs, let alone unexpected expenses. He found himself needing to shell out for more expensive housing further from uni.
😬 Imagine the stress of trying to focus on your studies while your finances are in disarray. His mum described the ordeal as “very significant,” saying, “£800 to a student is the difference between eating or not.”
After being pestered with broken promises, the staffer eventually repaid him but only by November! She admitted to financial woes and digging herself “a hole” with lies, acknowledging how much she messed up.
👏 Kudos to mum for stepping in! She reported everything to Action Fraud, although they’ve yet to refer it for investigation.
A reminder: always double-check your accommodation’s legit before handing over cash, even when you think you’re in good hands. 🧐
