🐐✨ Welsh mountain goats are facing a 21st-century challenge as social media tourists flood their natural habitats! These majestic creatures, known for gracefully navigating the rugged hills of north Wales, are being pushed aside as visitors seek the perfect snapshot for their online feeds.

John Horrigan, a passionate goat admirer living near Dinorwig quarry, has witnessed the growing impact of increased foot traffic on the local goat herds. Dinorwig and Padarn Country Park are seeing tourists stray from designated paths, all for that Instagram-worthy shot, which forces these sure-footed goats into smaller areas.
“For those living nearby, it seems like goat numbers are on the rise,” John notes. “In reality, they’ve simply been cornered into tighter spaces. Some have even suggested a cull, but what’s truly needed is a deeper respect for the goats’ natural habitats.”

Efforts to curb this intrusive behaviour include new fencing, but tourists are undeterred, with some resorting to cutting through barriers and camping near areas vital for goat shelter.
Wildlife in the quarry, especially the beloved mountain goats, is feeling the squeeze. It’s crucial that visitors appreciate and protect these habitats, not just for the love of a photo but for the future of the wildlife that calls these hills home.

Let’s cherish and preserve these magical creatures and their environment for generations to come. 🏞️🌿
