ππ¦ A Sharky Mystery Unfolds in Welsh Waters! π¦π

A sharp fin was spotted prowling the seaside near Porthcawl, fuelling whisperings that a great white shark might be lurking just off the Welsh coast! ππ± The sighting was only a stoneβs throw from the shore and has locals buzzing with speculation.

Some residents are convinced it’s the notorious great white, echoing fears we’ve all seen in films like Jaws. Though a great white has never been officially recorded in British waters, tales and unconfirmed sightings have kept the legend alive!
Yet, others have a more grounded theory. π¦ Could it be the gentle giant, the basking shark, which sometimes graces UK waters? These harmless filter feeders typically migrate by autumn, making a November sighting a bit unusual! π€
Dan Santillo, a local who spotted the fin on Saturday, shared, βIt was moving slowly, slicing through the water. Initially, it looked like a sunfish to me. Everyone threw in their guesses, from basking to great white. Whatever it was, it glided for a solid 30 minutes without diving. Truly a sight to behold!β
Debates continue among residents. One remarked, “Basking sharks and great whites share those iconic fins, making it tricky to tell from just a glimpse.” Another reminisced their run-in with a basking shark while surfing, admitting, “I was so spooked, especially with Cornwall buzzing with great white rumours!”
Speculations are everywhere! Some suggest it might be a mako or porbeagle shark. Others? Well, they’re steering clear of the water entirely!
π Basking sharks, towering over UK seas, usually bid adieu by autumn, migrating southward or farther offshore. They’re a rare sight come winter, especially around our coasts!
π€ So, what do you reckon? A great white staking its claim in British waters, or just a basking shark cruising by a little late? Drop your thoughts! π¦π
