Courtney Leggett’s story is a powerful testimony to the grip of addiction and the fight to reclaim her life. In her early 20s, ketamine became an all-consuming part of her daily routine. Despite severe health issues, she continued using the drug, even setting alarms in the middle of the night for her next dose. At the height of her addiction, Courtney wore nappies due to the impact ketamine had on her bladder, letting her family believe their cat was to blame for the smell in her room.

Her descent began at 16, experimenting with the drug at illegal raves and quickly spiralled into a daily dependence. By 2019, Courtney endured agonizing pain, often mistaking it for a UTI, but doctors eventually revealed her bladder was severely damaged. The turning point for Courtney came after a series of personal tragedies and a stern warning from social services. The risk of losing her son propelled her towards recovery.
Now six weeks sober, she reflects on her journey, acknowledging the immense toll addiction took on her young life. Courtney’s message is clear: addiction is a disease that can ruin lives, but seeking help can lead to recovery. With determination, she’s spreading awareness about the dangers of drug use and the importance of support and intervention.

Courtney says, “I count my blessings every day. I was using the drug as a crutch, but I’ve learned that life without it is so much better. If my story can prevent even one person from falling into the same trap I did, then sharing it will be worth it.”
