🌨️❄️ Brrr! The UK is shivering through its chilliest night yet with temperatures plummeting close to a frosty -7°C! As the snow blankets the country, hundreds of schools are shutting their doors, and travel chaos is unfolding on the roads. 🚗🌨️

In northern Scotland, around 100 schools didn’t open, and in Wales, 36 in Pembrokeshire, 14 in Carmarthenshire, and seven in Ceredigion are closed. Further north, North Yorkshire sees 33 schools out of action, with eight in East Yorkshire also closed.

The cold snap has triggered significant health warnings across the UK, with three amber and six yellow alerts due to the extreme chill. ❄️💨 These warnings underline serious health risks, especially for vulnerable groups.
To give you an idea of the chill, RAF Benson in Oxfordshire recorded -6.6°C, while Sennybridge in Powys saw -6.4°C. Not to be left out, Northern Ireland recorded a frosty -2.8°C. 🥶
If you’re out and about, be cautious! North Yorkshire advises drivers to only journey if absolutely necessary, as the roads are more like ice rinks! Sunderland experienced an overturned car due to the icy A19, and in Pembrokeshire, many roads are impassable, with B4329 Preseli Road taking a hit.
Power cuts are causing an extra chill for 631 homes in Pembrokeshire. Meanwhile, an amber weather warning remains in place for the North East until 9 pm tonight, threatening more snow and ice with the potential to strand vehicles and cut power again.
However, hang tight! The Met Office promises a “cold and crisp” remainder of the day, with snow showers expected chiefly in northern Scotland and coastal bits. As tomorrow looks to bring slightly milder weather, brace for more dry and sunny spells! 🌞
Stay warm, stay safe, and keep the blankets handy, folks! 💙
