❄️ Brrr… it’s freezing out there! The UK shivers as temperatures plunge to a bone-chilling -11°C, causing chaos across the nation. Loch Glascarnoch in the Scottish Highlands recorded record lows, with the mercury dipping below -7°C in many regions. While it’s a tad warmer in England and Wales, lows still reached chilling figures of -6°C in Ceredigion and -4°C in Cheshire. 🌡️

Forecaster Simon Partridge explains this icy blast is due to a “little ridge of high pressure” bringing lighter winds overnight. Expect a frosty morning, followed by some much-needed sunshine later. 🌞 The big freeze gripping the country is expected to thaw a bit as temperatures return to average by the weekend. 🗓️

The bitter cold forced the closure of hundreds of schools, particularly affecting northern Scotland with 100 closures, and Wales where Pembrokeshire saw 36 shut, 14 in Carmarthenshire, and 7 in Ceredigion. North Yorkshire saw 33 schools closed, with East Yorkshire facing 8 closures. ❌🏫
Snowfall and icy roads have led to travel disruptions and power outages, so be careful out there! 🚗💨 The Met Office has issued yellow ice warnings across many parts of the UK, urging everyone to take extra caution. 🌬️
Stay safe, keep warm, and look forward to sunshine breaking through the frost! ☀️✨
