In a scandal that has rocked South Wales Police, detective constable Thomas Pook has been found guilty of making lewd and inappropriate comments to female colleagues over several months. An internal misconduct panel concluded his actions were severe enough to warrant dismissal, although he resigned before this could take effect.

Pook, who joined the force back in 2016, was known for making his colleagues feel “uncomfortable and disgusted” with his actions and words. On one appalling occasion, he responded to an innocent gesture by asking if a colleague was “offering a blowie.” His behaviour didn’t stop at offensive comments—on another occasion, Pook made unwanted physical contact by playing with a colleague’s hair.

Despite previous warnings and forced reflective practice, his behaviour continued unabated. The panel highlighted that Pook, who should have been a role model, displayed a pattern of misconduct that spanned across 2023, impacting multiple individuals.

During a September 2025 hearing, Pook was accused of making shocking remarks about a fellow officer’s personal life, blowing kisses at a new female detective, and making crass jokes about another officer’s wife. His refusal to attend the hearing was noted, and his police federation representative confirmed this was a deliberate choice.

While there was some evidence of remorse, the panel found it lacking significant weight due to his consistent inappropriate behaviour despite previous apologies. Pook’s conduct and attitude were deemed an ongoing threat to both colleagues and the public. If still serving, dismissal without notice would have been the only outcome. His name is set to be added to the policing barred list, ensuring he can’t serve in any police capacity in the future.
