❤️ Remembering Willow Rose: A Heartbreaking Loss ❤️

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a beautiful 10-day-old baby girl, Willow Rose Courtney-Thompson, tragically passed away due to a series of mistakes made by the hospital staff at John Radcliffe Hospital. Born prematurely and full of promise, little Willow died of E. coli sepsis following a biopsy performed without her parents’ consent. This occurred during a brief moment when her mother, Lauren, had stepped away for a phone call.

Despite her short life, Willow Rose touched the hearts of many. Her parents, Joseph and Lauren, fondly remember her as a “sassy, cheeky but content little girl” who brought immense joy to their lives. They hope speaking out about this tragedy can prevent similar incidents from happening in the future, sparing other families from enduring such heartache.
An inquest at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court has brought to light the unfortunate lapses during Willow’s care. The biopsy was conducted without the privacy and dignity that every patient deserves, and without the essential pre-procedure antibiotics that could have saved her life. Scheduled monitoring was miscommunicated between surgical and neonatal teams, resulting in Willow’s premature discharge from the hospital.
Heartbroken but determined to find answers, the couple worked with medical negligence lawyers to uncover the truth behind their daughter’s passing. They express that reliving these moments has been immensely distressing but crucial to honour Willow’s memory.
The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has issued a heartfelt apology to Willow’s family, acknowledging the critical gaps in her care. They promise that lessons have been learned and necessary changes are underway to prevent this from happening again.
The loss of Willow is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of proper medical care. Our thoughts and hearts are with her family during this painful time. 🌺✨
