ππ Mysterious Find: Sonobuoy Discovered Off Welsh Coast! ππ

During a routine litter pick at Skomer Island, Pembrokeshire, divers Tim Smith-Gosling and Stephen Hardcastle made an unexpected discovery – a suspected spying device beneath the waves! This device, known as a sonobuoy, is typically used to track submarines. π€π

The duo, part of Neptune’s Army of Rubbish Cleaners, a volunteer-run charity committed to marine conservation, retrieved the device while clearing the seabed. It turns out that these acoustic monitoring gadgets arenβt entirely rare in the UK waters, a legacy of years of naval activity. A similar one was found on Perraporth beach, Cornwall, sparking fears of an unexploded bomb. π£
David Kennard, founder of the charity, mentioned that while not common, these finds do happen. “We’ve still got ours,” he says. And with dented exteriors and familiar markings, this discovery adds another tale to the seas around the UK, previously echoed by finds in the Irish Sea in 2021. ππ΄ββ οΈ
The Royal Navy remains tight-lipped on the specifics, citing operational security, but assures us they are always on the lookout, keeping UK waters safe and secure. So, whatβs really lurking beneath our waters? πβ
