Cardiff officials seek input from locals on proposed tourism levy

Exciting news for Cardiff residents and visitors! 🎉 Cardiff Council is gearing up to consult the public on a potential tourism tax aimed at overnight stays in the capital. If approved, this would introduce a small charge of £1.30 per person per night for paid stays of 31 nights or less in hotels, hostels, Airbnb, and camp sites, with a reduced rate of 75p for shared accommodations. Certain visitors, like those staying over 31 nights or under 18 in shared rooms, will be exempt.

While some see it as a potential barrier, others believe this small charge won’t deter the influx of global visitors, citing examples from countries like France and Japan, where tourism levies haven’t hindered travel.

The 12-week public consultation kicks off on December 1st. So, Cardiffians, here’s your chance to share your thoughts and help shape the future of our city’s tourism landscape. Your voice counts!
