An XL Bully dog caused chaos on Wrexham High Street, leaving a mum-of-two with teeth marks on her forehead after a terrifying encounter. The shocking attack happened in broad daylight, pulling off Yasmin Begum’s hijab and leaving her traumatised. It all unfolded when the dog’s owner, Tomasz Wegner, who was reportedly intoxicated, lost control of his pet. Despite claiming the dog merely wanted to “greet” the woman, witnesses describe a much more distressing scene, with Wegner shouting aggressively and seeming out of control.

Ms Begum’s kids witnessed the whole ordeal, making the incident even more harrowing for the family. A bystander bravely stepped in, managing to restrain the dog until police arrived. The aftermath has been equally gripping, with the court sentencing Wegner to a 15-month jail term, suspended for two years, and banning him from owning dogs during that time. However, the fate of the dog is sealed, as a destruction order was issued.
The court drama unfolded as Wegner admitted in court it really was an XL Bully, despite earlier denials and suggestions it was a different breed. Claims of the dog being “calm and gentle” prior to this encounter didn’t hold up against the serious nature of the attack. Kennelling fees have soared to over £9,000, adding to the saga’s complexity.

This incident raises serious concerns about dog control and public safety, especially since incidents involving aggressive dogs have been increasingly in the spotlight. Let’s hope Ms Begum and her family find some peace after this ordeal. Stay safe, everyone!
