A shocking incident unfolded outside the White House Hotel in Swansea, where a man found himself the victim of a premeditated assault during what he believed was a drug deal. On September 4, Richard Pearce arranged to supply drugs to the victim, but it quickly turned into a nightmare when Shane Cowell jumped him from behind a wall. The man was hit in the face and body and kneed as he struggled to shield himself. The brutal attack left him with cuts and grazes, but the attackers fled the scene.

The very next day, justice caught up with Cowell and Pearce as they were arrested and brought to court. Surveillance footage showed the pair meeting ahead of the assault, suggesting a well-thought-out plan.

In court, Cowell, 34, chose not to comment during police interviews, while Pearce, 43, claimed the victim had previously stolen drugs from him. Pearce admitted to slapping the victim during the attack, fully owning up to his actions.
Appearing via video link from Swansea Prison, both men had pled guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Their lawyers spoke on their behalf, highlighting Cowell’s challenging past and potential for rehabilitation, and Pearce’s remorse and acceptance of responsibility.
Despite their pleas, Judge Daniel Williams called the attack an “ugly incident” on a “slightly built” victim. Pearce received a nine-month prison sentence, while Cowell was handed eight months. They’ll serve half their sentences behind bars and are barred from contacting the victim for three years.
