Big news for UK households! Starting April next year, families will see an average saving of £150 on their energy bills as part of a government initiative. Chancellor Rachel Reeves shared the update in her Budget speech, emphasising support amidst ongoing inflation struggles.

Here’s the scoop: The savings will come from cutting costs linked to the Energy Company Obligation, which currently adds to bills, plus government backing for 75% of the legacy Renewables Obligation’s domestic costs for the next three years. And there’s more – the £150 Warm Home Discount is expanding to cover an extra 3 million households.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is all about action, saying they’re slashing £150 from energy bills to tackle the cost of living crisis. The long-term plan? Homegrown, clean power to keep those bills down. Remember, they promised at the election to reduce bills by up to £300 by 2030!
The expert view from Martin Lewis? He guesses this might mean a 3p to 4p reduction per unit rate, but stresses it needs to apply to all bills.
There’s a bonus for Wales too, with £505m extra coming from the UK Government. This will be split into £320m for resources and £185m for capital, thanks to the Barnett formula.
