Julian and Alison Parkes’ hopes of building their dream home next to The Ship Aground pub in Dinas Cross hit another roadblock! Their second attempt to get approval from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has been turned down.

They wanted to transform part of the pub’s car park into a lovely three-bedroom abode, complete with seven replacement parking spots nearby. But the Parkes still face opposition due to concerns over highway safety and parking – essential factors near the busy A487 road. Last year’s application had similar hiccups, missing vital info about access and parking, plus no contribution to affordable housing.

A recent report highlighted the potential chaos from losing existing parking, possibly leading to unsafe roadside parking issues, affecting safety and convenience for locals and visitors. The Welsh Government urged refusal due to insufficient access plans, stressing that a risk assessment for this busy 40mph road is non-negotiable.

Planners also noted a glaring omission – no plan for affordable housing contributions, a must for new builds. Sadly, without these addressed, permission was denied yet again.

The Parkes’ journey continues as they navigate planning hurdles to make their dream a reality. Stay tuned! 🏠✨
