This Saturday was anything but ordinary for the folks at Strand Court in Swansea. Over 40 residents, including those with disabilities, had to make a swift exit after a burst pipe caused “pandemonium” in the 12-storey building. Picture this: water gushing through every floor on one side, light fittings dripping, and electrics flickering—talk about a nightmare before Christmas! 😱

The incident kicked off around 3:30 pm on November 29, when water started pouring from a burst pipe on the ninth floor. Some residents hurried to help their neighbours evacuate, with one swift-footed man even making a daring escape through a ground-floor window as his ceiling turned into a waterfall!

Although the fire crews arrived promptly and isolated the leak, the damage had been done. The entire one side of the building was soaked, with extensive water damage and non-functional lifts, leaving residents to deal with the aftermath. The lower floors, which serve as car parks, weren’t spared either—flooded and unusable!

Residents were able to return to their homes by 5 pm, but the experience was anything but festive. “It was pure chaos,” said one resident who missed his work Christmas party to stay and help his neighbours. The building, run by Beacon Housing Association, will need some serious TLC to get back to normal.

Here’s hoping for a swift recovery for all those affected and a smooth, dry return to normality! 💪💧
