Great news for the eco-conscious folks in South Wales! The expansion of the Llantrisant Recycling Centre has been approved, paving the way for a substantial £10 million investment in our local circular economy. The plans, greenlit by the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, aim to boost recycling capabilities with a brand-new sound-insulated recycling building and upgraded public infrastructure.

What’s exciting? Over 80 new trees will be planted, and the site will feature extensive landscaping to enhance its surroundings. Plus, solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems will make the facility more sustainable. The new 10,500-square-metre structure promises to revolutionise recycling in the area while keeping noise levels in check, a point of concern for the few objectors to the plan.
Though there’s a tinge of regret about encroaching into the countryside, the need to process recyclable materials efficiently and meet sustainability targets outweighs those concerns. The good news is that appropriate mitigation measures are lined up to minimise impacts and safeguard the local ecosystem.

Construction kicks off in 2026, so get ready for a cleaner, greener Rhondda Cynon Taf—a win for the community and the planet! 🌿♻️
