🍔🚫Controversy is sizzling over plans for burger vans at some of Wales’ most picturesque spots! Local council members and residents are fired up about proposals to station mobile food vans at Great Barnets Wood, Chepstow, and Beacon View, Trellech. Concerns are bubbling up around litter, wildlife disturbance, and the serene atmosphere these beauty spots offer.

Cllr Louise Brown has passionately objected, suggesting that woodland walks are meant for health and relaxation, not for indulging in fast food! She believes that setting up burger vans contradicts the Welsh Government’s Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, and is worried about the impact of unhealthy food on visitors.

But that’s not all – there’s more to chew on! Questions are popping up about how a snack van might affect local pubs, restaurants, and the area’s cherished tranquillity. Some worry about inadequate parking space and the potential mess from litter and dog fouling, especially when food is involved.
One resident exclaimed, “We come for the stunning views, not burgers and onion smells in the middle of nature!” 🚶♂️🌳
Additionally, concerns have been raised about the risk to local wildlife, like dormice, from increased human activity and waste. With a lack of hand-washing facilities already a question mark, how sanitary would these setups be?
While Wye Valley National Landscapes is ok with the proposals, many locals reckon they deserve a thorough review. Should the council’s planning committee have the final say?
