🔪 **Shocking Attack in Swansea** 🔪

In a chilling turn of events, 67-year-old Peter Rees faces justice after a terrifying series of incidents, culminating in the stabbing of an 81-year-old man.

It all began when Rees, living with his girlfriend and her elderly friend following his eviction, threatened a handyman with a knife over a leaking tap. Fast forward to an argument with his partner, where Rees turned violent, suffocating her with a pillow. Some weeks later, the situation escalated dramatically. Rees, wrongly convinced that his partner was romantically involved with her 81-year-old housemate, lashed out with a kitchen knife, stabbing the unsuspecting pensioner twice in the chest.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital of Wales with critical injuries, narrowly avoiding a fatal blow to the heart. Meanwhile, Rees was arrested, his justification being a misjudged belief about the relationship between his partner and her friend.
Swansea Crown Court heard the harrowing details, and Judge Geraint Walters didn’t hold back, labelling the acts as “disturbing”. Rees has been sentenced to an extended 12-year term, with eight years behind bars. The judge remarked that sheer luck, rather than intent, determined the difference between grievous bodily harm and murder.
🔗 The judge noted Rees’ deteriorating mental health and alcohol abuse as contributing factors to his violent outbursts. With time served and good behaviour, Rees might see parole after two-thirds of his sentence.
🚨 A stark reminder of the dangers of substance abuse and unchecked mental health issues, this case shocked the local community, highlighting the fragility of reason under the influence.
