🚠A Future Without Cigarettes: A Turning Point for Wales?

Jody Bullock knows all too well the devastating impact of smoking. His grandfather, Lesley, who started smoking at just 12, passed away at 56 due to lung cancer. Now, Jody is channeling this personal tragedy into action, hoping that Wales will lead the charge against tobacco.
The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, up for a crucial vote, aims to ensure no one turning 18 from 2027 onwards can ever buy cigarettes legally in Wales. With additional measures targeting the allure of vaping to young people, this legislation could mark a monumental shift in public health.

As Jody, a devoted father and Cancer Research UK ambassador, states: “If this bill passes, my daughters might never fall into this deadly habit. It’s shocking to realise that despite record-low smoking rates, 10% of adults in Wales still smoke.”
The statistics speak for themselves: around 3,100 cancer cases and 5,000 deaths annually in Wales are smoking-related. Preventing young people from starting could save countless lives and reduce future NHS burdens.

Supported by Cancer Research UK, Jody’s mission is simple: to protect future generations by keeping tobacco out of their lives. The bill has already got the green light in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and now it’s Wales’ opportunity to take a stand.
Simon Scheeres, from Cancer Research UK, emphasises, “Smoking remains a leading cause of cancer. This bill is a historic chance to change that narrative. Let’s prioritise children’s health over politics.”
By raising the age of sale, the bill promises a healthier, smoke-free future. Let’s ensure the next generation grows up without the shadow of tobacco. 🌟
