There’s a storm brewing in the Welsh NHS! 🚨 Allegations of corruption have hit the headlines, and now the Welsh Conservatives are demanding a police investigation. In the Senedd, Conservative leader Darren Millar didn’t hold back, declaring to the First Minister, “It absolutely stinks!”

So, what’s going on? 🤔 The short stint of David Donegan as CEO of Velindre NHS Trust has raised eyebrows. His resignation came after concerns about potential criminal activity. To stir the pot even more, the departure of the Trust’s chair—who also flagged governance worries—adds another layer of intrigue. Both were at the centre of whisperings about NHS Wales’ Shared Services Partnership, which is supposed to keep everything above board.

And that’s not all. Remember the shake-up at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board? Allegations of false accounting and collusion with suppliers led to a clear-out of non-executive board members. It’s no wonder Millar is calling for immediate action.
First Minister Eluned Morgan responded by urging anyone with further evidence to step forward, emphasising the need to follow appropriate protocols. An independent review is already in the works, and the auditor general is on standby for its results. Meanwhile, Morgan insists previous investigations found no issues with the shared services’ governance.
But Millar remains sceptical, questioning the trustworthiness of the organisation tasked with safeguarding the Welsh NHS’s integrity. “If we can’t trust them, who can we trust?” he challenged.
Are we witnessing the tip of an iceberg within the NHS, or is it all going to blow over? The call for a police probe could mean this is just the beginning. Stay tuned!
