🎉 Exciting news from the Welsh Rugby Union! Abi Tierney, WRU’s first female CEO, is set to make a permanent return in the new year after stepping down in August for cancer treatment. Having received positive news about her prognosis, Abi is ready to jump back into her role full-time.

Abi expressed her gratitude for the immense support from the Welsh rugby community during her time away and is eager to rejoin during this pivotal time for the sport. “There’s a huge opportunity ahead for our professional game, and I’m looking forward to contributing directly again,” she shared.
In her absence, Richard Collier-Keywood took on interim leadership duties. Looking forward, he expressed high hopes for Abi’s return, noting it would bring renewed energy as the WRU moves to reshape the professional game in Wales, potentially reducing the number of professional teams.

Before joining the WRU, Abi had a stellar career, including roles at HM Passport Office and UK Visas and Immigration. She also added valuable insights from her time with Serco, IBM, and as a director at University Hospitals of Leicester and Aberdeen City Council.

Join us in welcoming Abi back and stay tuned for all the latest as exciting changes unfold for Welsh rugby! 🏉💪✨
