🌬️ Winds of Change or Trouble Brewing? Powys in the Spotlight! 🌬️

Hey folks! Big news hitting mid Wales as plans for a massive energy park are creating quite the stir. Bute Energy is looking to plant 31 wind turbines, each towering up to 220 metres, right in Radnor Forest near Llandrindod Wells. But, the local council’s recent report suggests this might just be blowing more harm than good into our lovely county.
The Powys County Council’s local impact report throws a spotlight on the potential drawbacks—14 of them, to be precise. Concerns range from the impact on local wildlife like our iconic red kites to the inconvenience of heavy traffic due to “abnormal load” journeys. There’s chatter about “shadow flicker” affecting nearby homes and changes needed for Cowlod Common’s registration too. Plus, listed buildings in the area and our rolling landscapes could face changes.

However, it’s not all gloomy skies. 🌞 The park could power between 130,000 to 193,000 homes annually and promises a hefty £1.5 million into boosting local community projects each year!
This plan falls under Welsh Government’s eyes, so while the final call is theirs, Powys planners aren’t holding back in voicing concerns. Public consultation is ongoing till December 23rd, so now’s the time to share your thoughts!
