📢 Heartbreaking News from Tenerife: Tragedy Strikes during Holiday

We’re deeply saddened to share the story of Jamie Cole, a 25-year-old from Bristol who tragically lost his life while on holiday in Tenerife. Jamie, who was autistic, had an argument with his support worker during dinner on 14th January 2023. This heartbreaking disagreement led to Jamie making an irreversible decision.
After leaving the restaurant, Jamie returned to his hotel and sent a final message to a manager at his support agency. He expressed his love for everyone, especially his mum, before making the tragic jump from his balcony.

The inquest, which recently concluded, highlighted several critical oversights but did not find the support worker or agency legally responsible for Jamie’s death. However, the coroner pointed out deficiencies in the pre-trip risk assessment.
His mother, Martine, spoke about the joy Jamie brought to their lives, describing him as a kind and bubbly person. She expressed her disbelief at how a holiday that started happily could end in such profound loss.
Jamie’s story is a stark reminder of the responsibilities care agencies hold. In light of this tragedy, the agency involved has reviewed their procedures, pledging to prioritise the well-being and safety of those they support.
