An intense police chase took a dramatic turn in the early hours of December 11, when it ended in a serious crash, closing a major Cardiff route for 10 hours. Ely roundabout was sealed off, causing significant traffic and chaos in the area.
Michael Crofts, from Adamsdown, has come clean in court, admitting to dangerous driving along with offences like driving without insurance or a licence and failing to stop for the police. After appearing at Newport Magistrates Court, he’s been remanded into custody. His sentencing is slated for January 9 at Cardiff Crown Court.
The crash involved a silver Ford Fiesta near the Ely roundabout at about 3am. Both the driver and passenger, both 34, were taken to the University Hospital of Wales. Thankfully, they are in stable condition, and their injuries aren’t life-threatening. After receiving treatment, both have been discharged.
Local residents faced heavy traffic and public transport disruptions due to the closure. Police cordoned off the area to conduct collision investigations, with a substantial police presence noticed around the crash site.
