A shocking case is unfolding today as a former NHS worker is set to be sentenced for sexually assaulting two patients at a Welsh hospital. Ieuan Crump, just 27, carried out these disturbing assaults while working as a trainee health worker at the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran back in August 2021.
The trial at Cardiff Crown Court painted a grim picture of how Crump abused his position of trust. One victim recounted the traumatic experience of being assaulted during a bladder scan, even when another health worker was present. Shockingly, Crump returned alone to repeat his actions under the guise of examining for swelling. Another victim described invasive and inappropriate conduct during a similar procedure, revealing how Crump opened her legs and made unwelcome comments.
Despite his defence barrister branding him a “man of impeccable character,” the jury was convinced otherwise, finding Crump guilty on nine charges of sexual assault, which included three counts of assault by penetration. Crump remained defiant, disputing the claims and insisting he had adhered to proper protocols and wore PPE throughout.
Awaiting his sentencing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Crump is already on the sex offenders’ register and has been told by the judge to expect a substantial prison sentence.
