James, Earl of Wessex, has just turned 18! The son of Prince Edward and Sophie, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, faces a big decision now that he’s come of age. With his milestone birthday, James is entitled to take on the royal titles of His Royal Highness (HRH) and Prince. But, in a move that’s sparking conversations, James is reportedly choosing not to use these titles.
Following his mum Sophie’s advice, James seems to be stepping away from what some of his royal cousins have done. Sophie has been quite open about wanting her children, including Lady Louise Windsor, to grow up with a sense of “normalcy.” She’s even said that they’re likely to have to work for a living despite their royal lineage. Talk about keeping it real!
Interestingly, this decision means James will not be taking a page out of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s book. Harry and Meghan, as you might know, made headlines when they decided their kids would be known as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meanwhile, Prince Andrew and Zara Tindall are among other royals who’ve opted out of using the HRH title for different reasons.
