Two takeaways in Canton, Cardiff have recently come under fire after inspections revealed they posed an “immediate public health risk.” Environmental health officers discovered alarming food hygiene issues, including rodent infestations, filthy conditions, and inadequate food safety management.
🐭 The check-ups at Rasathi Sri Lankan Takeaway and Chennai Dosa, both operated by the same company, unveiled disturbing evidence: mouse droppings in food prep areas, dirty equipment, and unrefrigerated food. These findings led to both places being voluntarily shut down.
💸 The company and its director have been hit with a hefty £20,000 fine in total due to these breaches. Rasathi has now closed, while Chennai Dosa has made changes to keep trading, including deep cleaning and pest-proofing. Despite these efforts, issues continued, prompting further enforcement action.
Councillor Norma Mackie stated, “The conditions posed a clear and immediate risk. Businesses must have effective pest control, thorough cleaning practices, and robust food safety systems.”
