Heartbreak and Resilience: Mum with Cancer Faces Airport Ordeal 💔✈️

Meet Kelly Grigg, a brave 39-year-old mum from Cornwall facing the toughest battle of her life. This summer, what she thought was a hernia turned out to be bowel cancer, leaving her with a stoma bag after emergency surgery.
Kelly’s journey has been nothing short of arduous. During a family trip to Manchester for some much-needed fun at a United game, she experienced a distressing incident at Manchester Airport. Security staff’s treatment of Kelly due to her stoma bag was, in her words, like being treated as a “criminal.” Despite her travel certificate, she was subjected to a humiliating search, lifting her maxi dress to prove her innocence when her bag set off an alarm. Even a mint placed in her stoma bag, a tip from her nurse to keep it fresh, was mistaken for something illicit. The airport has since apologised, but the sting of that day lingers.

Currently undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy, Kelly’s battle isn’t over. Her cancer has spread to her ovaries, and she’s awaiting a crucial decision on possible surgery. Her family is her rock – her husband and eight friends are even cycling from St Stephens to Land’s End to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK, having already collected an incredible £4,600!
While Kelly remains hopeful, she’s candid about the emotional toll this battle takes. Her story is a stark reminder of the invisible struggles many face and the critical importance of compassion and awareness.
