Mike Denan’s story is an incredible reminder of resilience and the holiday spirit. Picture this: a carefree bank holiday in Drury, Flintshire turns into a nightmare when a routine caravan trip goes awry. The caravan movers failed, leaving Mike in a desperate scramble to stop it. Tragically, he was pulled under, as his wife Margaret recalls, “like a rag doll.”
Miraculously, Mike survived horrific injuries, including a broken back and foot. Emergency crews took two hours to free him, and he was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. What saved his life? The brave foot that got caught in the chassis holes – a small miracle indeed!
Despite everything, 80-year-old Mike is now the mastermind behind a fabulous Christmas lights display at their home, spreading cheer to everyone passing by. This year, their stunning decorations—featuring glowing reindeers, snowmen, and Santa—are lighting up smiles and raising funds for the life-saving Wales Air Ambulance. After all, that air ambulance was crucial to Mike’s survival!
In a touching tribute to their late neighbour, Lesley Jones, who suggested using their festive magic to raise funds, they’ve set up a JustGiving page. Margaret, 77, shared, “People come up the drive just to take pictures with our lights.”
