🎗️ Imagine finding out you have cancer… from your phone! That’s exactly how 21-year-old Freya Hodge discovered her diagnosis through an NHS app, even before her doctor had a chance to break the news. 🏥

Freya, an active young woman and a passionate rock climber from East Sussex, discovered a painless lump in her armpit. Initially thinking it was a minor issue, her GP referred her for an X-ray, suspecting it might be a simple dislocated bone.

While on a family holiday, curiosity got the better of Freya, and she checked the NHS app on her mobile. To her horror, the results were already there: a tumour. “I thought I had just been handed my death sentence,” she said. 😔

Freya’s experience turned into a whirlwind of emotions. From disbelief and panic to finally getting official confirmation after waiting weeks due to a biopsy redo, it was a rollercoaster. Diagnosed with a rare cancer, Parosteal osteosarcoma, Freya faced tough decisions about whether to undergo chemotherapy with little information available on her cancer type.
During her treatment at the Teenage Cancer Trust unit in London, Freya opted for chemotherapy, which resulted in losing her beloved long, blonde curls—a part of her identity she’d always cherished. “I decided to shave my head before treatment took it,” she bravely recounts.
The mental toll was severe; panic attacks became a daily challenge. But with the help of counselling, medication, and an incredible support system from her family, friends, and Teenage Cancer Trust, Freya persevered.
After a difficult Christmas undergoing chemo, Freya received fantastic news in May—she was cancer-free! 🎉 Now, she’s looking forward to a healthy holiday season and is gearing up to give back by supporting Teenage Cancer Trust’s crucial work. 🌟
