🏉 From Rugby Pitch to Pub Life: Gavin Henson’s New Chapter 🍻
Remember the iconic rugby star Gavin Henson? The guy who dazzled on the field, winning the Grand Slam in 2005, and playing for top teams like Ospreys, Saracens, and Cardiff? Well, he’s swapped his rugby boots for pint glasses and now runs The Fox pub in St Brides Major! 🏡
After hanging up his boots in 2019, Gavin’s laid-back days are all about managing his pub and bonding with his young family. He’s also dived back into football by establishing a Sunday league team, Super Fox United, with his childhood mate Jamie Griffiths. Talk about reliving the glory days, right? ⚽️
Reflecting on his rugby career, Henson has been open about the emotional and physical rollercoaster he experienced. Injuries and the pressures off the pitch were tough, but he discovered a book called ‘The Chimp Paradox’ by Dr Steve Peters. This life-changing read helped him understand himself better, especially about the impulsive ‘chimp’ side within him that often took control. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, as the drinking culture in rugby posed challenges, but now he’s embracing a more relaxed lifestyle, occasionally playing for his local team, Pencoed RFC.
Gavin’s journey from professional athlete to local hero in St Brides Major shows his passion for his village and his new role as a publican. Who knows, maybe next time you’re in St Brides Major, you might catch him pulling pints or sharing a story or two at The Fox. 🌟🍲
Here’s to new beginnings and rediscovering passions! 🎉
