Meet Shane Howarth – once a Welsh rugby hero, now the proud owner of a bustling supermarket in New Zealand! 🛒
Shane’s story is nothing short of gripping. He once dazzled fans from the stands during Wales’ unforgettable victories against giants like South Africa, France, and England. But, in a twist of fate, his international career ended abruptly in 2000 due to the infamous “Grannygate” scandal. He was left heartbroken, unable to prove his Welsh heritage due to a bureaucratic mix-up, even though he passionately considered himself Welsh through and through.
Fast forward to today, and Shane has swapped the rugby field for grocery aisles! Inspired by a long-standing conversation with friends, including the legendary Robin Brooke, Shane pursued his dream of running a supermarket. After a year’s training with Fresh Choice in Auckland, Shane took the plunge in December 2017.
What a journey! From steering Wales to thrilling victories to ensuring the freshest veggies hit the shelves, Shane has embraced every twist and turn with determination and heart. Though being a rugby player turned grocery guru raised a few eyebrows initially, Shane is now a beloved part of the local community.
