Six years after being jailed, crooked car dealer Gwyn Meiron Roberts is finally set to pay back his victims. He defrauded 33 people out of over £750,000 with his bogus vehicle-sourcing business. Despite being sentenced to seven years in prison in 2019, Roberts was initially ordered to repay just £1, as he was deemed to have no assets at that time.

But there’s a twist in this tale! 🌟 Thanks to the relentless efforts of the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit’s Economic Crime Unit, nearly £100,000 has been recovered from Roberts’ private pension. This means Christmas has come early for his victims, who are now receiving their long-overdue compensation. 🎄💰

Roberts targeted residents in North Wales back in 2014-2015, offering to sell cars or find replacements. Many were left with empty pockets and no vehicles, most heartbreakingly affecting elderly locals. After being charged in 2017 with 25 counts of fraud-related offences, Roberts’ initial sentencing left victims with little hope of financial justice.

However, through expert use of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), the Crime Unit turned the tables. Senior financial investigator, William Furnivall, emphasised, “This result showcases our unwavering commitment to stripping criminals of their illicit gains, even years later.”

Kudos to the team for ensuring criminals can’t enjoy their spoils! The victims, or their next of kin, are finally seeing justice served. 💪

Let this be a reminder that persistence pays off and justice, though it might take time, can still be found. 🌟
