What a game at Parc y Scarlets! The Ospreys made sure they took home the bragging rights with a cracking bonus-point win over the Scarlets, finishing 26-19.
The Scarlets had a fiery start but couldn’t capitalise on their early chances, with the Ospreys’ defence rock solid thanks to standout performances from Harri Deaves and Owen Watkin. Despite the Scarlets putting pressure on the visitors, they were frustrated by a disallowed try and some crucial mistakes.
Owen Watkin opened the scoring for the Ospreys with a well-timed run after a tense start, followed by Dewi Lake powering over the line to extend the lead. Not one to be left behind, Joe Roberts got one back for the Scarlets just before the half-time whistle, keeping the hosts in the game.
The second half saw the Ospreys shift gears, with Kieran Hardy adding another try. Even after a late surge by the Scarlets – with Roberts scoring again – Iestyn Hopkins sealed the deal with a brilliant catch from a Dan Edwards cross-kick.
Scarlets put up a valiant effort, with Jarrod Taylor scoring a late consolation try, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Ospreys from snatching victory in what might be the last West Wales derby played here.
Packed stands of 12,105 witnessed a bruising battle and a hard-earned win for the Ospreys, lifting them off the bottom of the United Rugby Championship table.
