Why the closure? Safety concerns have risen since a tragic incident in 2023. With 30,000 visitors flooding in last year, managing the crowd has become more challenging, especially without the Royal Parks police team, disbanded due to funding cuts.
Local voices are divided: For some, it’s an overreaction, hindering community life and affecting nearby businesses. Others stress the necessity for safety, though many believe the barriers resemble something out of Glastonbury!
The Royal Parks charity, which manages the site, insists this decision wasn’t made lightly, citing limited safety controls. As a result, they’ve urged everyone to find alternative plans for celebrating.
