Whether you’re enjoying a coastal walk or simply love marine animals from afar, you never know when you might come across a seal, dolphin or whale in distress. Just like a fellow beachgoer who found a seal pup all alone and struggling during a walk in Ramsgate, Kent on Christmas Day, you could make a big difference.

Cardiff Latest News
When a seal pup was spotted far from the shore, surrounded by off-lead dogs, quick-thinking strangers sprung into action. Thanks to some of them remembering this vital hotline, the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) were alerted and rushed to the scene. Their timely response ensured the pup received much-needed care, eventually making its way to RSPCA Mallydams for rehabilitation.

But here’s where you come in! Knowing what to do is crucial:

1. Keep people and dogs well back – at least 100m if possible.
2. Don’t approach, feed, touch or try to move the animal.
3. If safe, take photos from a distance.
4. Call the 24-hour BDMLR hotline: 01825 765546, with the location and description.

Remember, not every seal needs intervention. Many are just resting. But making that call allows the professionals to assess and act if necessary. 🐬🐢

Your simple act of saving BDMLR’s number can help keep our marine life safe. So, pop it in your contacts and share this info with friends. Let’s keep these gorgeous creatures safe, together! 🌊💙

Feel-good update: Our Christmas rescue pup is now getting stronger at RSPCA Mallydams, thanks to dedicated carers. Fingers crossed for a swift recovery and return to the ocean! 🐋
