Paul Whitehead, who runs the Castle Cafe on the promenade, recounted how staff and bystanders desperately tried to help. A brave staff member even threw a life ring to the struggling girl. Despite their efforts, the girl couldn’t hold on amidst the relentless waves. Eyewitness Karen Higgs described the heart-wrenching scene, as shouts to grab the safety ring went unheard.

Emergency services, including the coastguard, RNLI, and local rescue teams, were mobilised promptly. Search efforts continue, although they had to pause due to the hazardous conditions, promising to resume at first light.

Authorities urge the public to keep away from the area to allow rescue teams to work safely. A rescue helicopter, several lifeboats, and a dedicated crew are committed to the search operation. Hornsea Inshore Rescue noted the dire sea conditions hampered their initial efforts.
