Brrr! It’s another chilly evening here in Wales as we brace for more freezing conditions. Last night was the coldest of the winter, with Bala, Gwynedd dropping to a frosty -10°C! And it seems like the chill isn’t leaving us anytime soon.

The Pembrokeshire Dangler, a band of stubborn snow and hail, hangs over the Irish Sea and is expected to hit parts of the coast, bringing more snow and icy conditions. While sunny spells have graced parts of Wales, temperatures are struggling to rise above 3°C today and have made travel a real challenge.

Schools in Pembrokeshire have shut early as a precaution against worsening weather, especially with more snow, ice, and freezing temperatures on the horizon. The Met Office says the lows could drop even further tonight, possibly reaching around -7°C, with frosty and icy conditions developing widely.
Here’s a snapshot of tonight’s expected temperatures: St David’s could see highs of 3°C during the day before dropping, while Monmouth will hit lows of -5°C. Over in Cardiff, prepare for around -3°C. Swansea and other northern areas might hover around -1°C. If you’re in north Wales, expect the thermometer to read between 1°C and -2°C, with Bala and Ruthin likely seeing -2°C. Holyhead, on the ‘warmer’ end of the spectrum, will see around 3°C.
As we look to Tuesday, expect a crisp start with some bright spells, but cloud thickens with a chance of patchy rain or sleet. Those south-westerly winds are kicking in too. Although temperatures may recover slightly to around 6°C, beware of those lingering icy patches.
Stay safe, plan your commutes carefully, and bundle up against the chill! Keep an eye on the weather updates as things can change quickly overnight. ❄️🥶✨
