Heartbreaking Tragedy at Withernsea Beach 💔

In a devastating start to 2026, what should have been a memorable family day at the beach turned tragic in East Yorkshire. A mother, Sarah Keeling, 45, and her daughter, Grace, 15, were swept out to sea by a massive wave. Sarah’s protective instincts kicked in, and she bravely jumped in after Grace, while her son watched in terror from the shore with their family dog.

Courageous bystanders, including 68-year-old Richard Shaw, rushed to help. Richard, hearing the desperate cries, grabbed a lifebelt and tried to save Grace, but the relentless waves overpowered him. Another brave soul, Mark Ratcliffe, 67, showed extraordinary heroism by diving into the dangerous waters in a rescue attempt. Tragically, neither Sarah, Grace, nor Mark survived the ordeal.

Mark is remembered as a “selfless hero with a heart of gold,” leaving loved ones devastated. Grace, described by friends as a happy and caring teen, shared a strong bond with her mum.
Despite efforts by the Coastguard and rescue services, Grace remains missing. Tributes flood the scene, honouring the lives lost in what was a cruel twist of fate. The sea’s power is undeniable, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event. 🌊🤍 #WithernseaTragedy #HeroicActs #InLovingMemory
