π¨ Shocking Arrest in Newport! π¨

In a dramatic turn of events, 23-year-old Luke Montgomery was nabbed on the streets of Newport with a surprising stash. This wasn’t your typical arrest; Montgomery was caught with nearly Β£200,000 worth of drugs, including heroin and crack cocaine, hidden in a nappy! π²πΆ
It all kicked off when police responded to reports of a man wielding a knife. Spotted near Caerleon Road, Luke tried to make a run for it, narrowly dodging a passing car. Officers quickly intervened, tasing him when he refused to comply. Talk about a tense showdown!

Bodycam footage showed him emptying his pockets and insisting he had nothing on him, but the evidence said otherwise. After the arrest, a search revealed not only the nappy stash but also Β£37,000 in cash, several mobile phones, and a machete tossed under a police car. ππΌ
Montgomery, originally sentenced to three years in 2024 for other drug offences, was on licence at the time of his arrest. This time, Cardiff Crown Court wasn’t lenient. Judge Paul Hobson handed him a hefty sentence of eight years and four months.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Edwards commented, “Montgomery’s attempts to evade justice were futile. The overwhelming evidence left him no choice but to plead guilty to these grave offences.”
A tip of the hat to the diligent officers and community members whose information helped bring another offender to justice. Letβs keep our streets safe from those looking to profit off the vulnerable. #JusticeServed πβοΈ
Stay safe out there, folks! π
