Set up to help the most vulnerable, this government scheme ensures those eligible, including pensioners on pension credit and certain universal credit claimants, receive a £25 payment whenever their local area experiences a particularly cold spell. If your postcode is linked to one of the 17 weather stations that recorded an average temperature at or below zero degrees Celsius for seven days in a row, you should see an automatic payment in your account within 14 days.

This winter might be off to a freezing start, but the Department for Work & Pensions has stepped up to keep folks a bit warmer. From Bingley in West Yorkshire (105,000 payments) to Rothamsted in Hertfordshire (73,000 payments), cold weather payments are now making their rounds.
