Gabby Logan has shared a heartfelt tribute following the passing of her beloved father, Terry Yorath, who has died aged 75 after a short illness. The news broke on Thursday morning, bringing a wave of tributes from the football world. Gabby, known for presenting Match of the Day, had to leave the show mid-broadcast on Wednesday due to a “family emergency.”

Terry, a legendary figure in Welsh football, passed away leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that spanned decades as both a player and manager. His football journey saw him captain Wales 42 times and shine for Leeds United, scoring 11 goals in 199 appearances. Later, he led the Swans to promotion and guided the Welsh national team to memorable victories over Brazil and Germany.

In a moving family statement read on BBC Breakfast, Gabby shared: “To most, he was a footballing hero, but to us, he was Dad; a quiet, kind, and gentle man. Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort knowing he will be reunited with our brother, Daniel.” Daniel tragically passed away in 1992 at the age of 15 due to a genetic heart condition, the same condition that now reunites father and son beyond this realm.
The Wales FA expressed their condolences saying, “The thoughts of everyone connected to the association are with Terry’s family, friends, and loved ones.” Similarly, Leeds United paid tribute, stating: “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Terry’s family, friends, and former teammates at this incredibly sad time.”
In this time of loss, Gabby, along with her siblings Louise and Jordan, are embracing the outpouring of support from those who knew and admired their father, both on and off the pitch. Terry Yorath will be remembered not just as a football legend, but as a devoted family man who left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
