Cardiff Council is set to hire 40 new teachers and 120 teaching assistants to cater to the growing need for specialist education. With nearly 500 new specialist places being made available over the next two years, this initiative is a response to a significant rise in the number of ALN pupils.

Several schools are expanding their resources to accommodate this increase in demand. For example, Baden Powell Primary will double its emotional health and wellbeing places, while Radnor Primary is set to have a new 30-place resource base focused on autism and social communication skills.

The goal is clear: ensure the majority of learners with ALN receive education in local mainstream schools while also enhancing specialist provisions when needed. This approach allows children to stay within their local communities, reducing reliance on out-of-county placements.

Catrin Llwyd from Woodlands High describes her work with ALN children as a privilege, saying, “Teaching in specialist provision is both a challenge and a joy, where every day brings the unique opportunity to make a difference.”

These roles are essential to supporting learners and providing high-quality, inclusive education. Vacancies are set to open for roles starting in April and September, so keep an eye out if you’re interested in joining this rewarding field. 📚👩‍🏫

Don’t miss out on being part of a programme that’s shaping the future for so many children in Cardiff! 🌈❤️
