When temperatures drop, your washer fluid can freeze just when you need it most. But don’t worry, the RAC has shared a simple, effective solution. Here’s what you need to do: First, top up your screenwash with neat solution that’s effective down to -20C—ditch any ready-mix stuff. If that fluid has already turned to ice, gently pour some hot (not boiling) water directly into your washer fluid reservoir to thaw it out. If your nozzles are frozen too, just wait for the engine to warm up the car enough to defrost them. And remember, avoid using hot water on your windscreen as it can crack the glass!

Got a bit of time? Park in a heated space and let nature do its thing. Or, if you’re feeling crafty, a hairdryer can help melt the ice (keep it moving though, you don’t want to melt any plastic parts)!
