Big news for nursing students at Swansea Uni! After months of stress and uncertainty, Swansea Bay University Health Board has reversed their decision and announced new job opportunities for the M23 nursing cohort. 🎉
Back in October 2025, 65 eager nursing students were shocked to discover there were no available positions waiting for them after graduation. They felt it was a “slap in the face” and feared unemployment despite working long, gruelling hours during their training. 💉🕒
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) didn’t hold back, criticising the health board for the unexpected job drought. Students felt they’d been misled, believing they were heading into a profession with plenty of opportunities. 😟
But thanks to their persistence and support from organisations like RCN Wales, change is here. The health board has now opened “substantive and fixed-term rotational posts,” ensuring these soon-to-be grads have a chance to continue their journey in the NHS. 📈
A health board spokesperson explained that by juggling different staffing models, they’ve managed to create these new opportunities. Meanwhile, RCN Wales is celebrating this collaboration, noting it as a positive step for nurturing local talent. 🤝✨
