Visitors to Pen y Fan have come under fire after emergency services were called to tackle two serious incidents at this beloved Welsh beauty spot. On a frosty day at Pont ar Daf in the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, heroic volunteers and the emergency crew swooped in to lend a hand. The scene was bustling, with helicopters making appearances, as icy conditions complicated the efforts.

While many visitors were praised for lending support and keeping cool heads, disappointing behaviour was also reported. Unbelievably, a Mountain Rescue volunteer faced some harsh words while working to ensure life-saving routes remained accessible. This behaviour, especially during such critical moments, isn’t just rude – it’s downright dangerous.
A friendly reminder to everyone: keep those emergency paths clear! Instructions during such incidents are about keeping everyone safe, not just a convenient trip. Winter days on the mountains demand a bit more patience and cooperation from all of us.

A massive thank you goes out to all the dedicated rescue teams, site staff, and volunteers. And to all those who showed respect and kindness, keeping the spirit of community alive on a demanding day – we see you and appreciate you.
To those injured, we’re all hoping for your speedy recovery. Let’s all remember that our shared outdoor gems are maintained with shared responsibility. Stay safe and considerate!
Here’s to enjoying our beautiful landscapes responsibly and always looking out for each other. 🌲⛰️❤️
